About The Event

Pile Driving Effects on a Steel Truss Railway Bridge During Rehabilitation – Jon Osback, P.Eng, Clifton Associates

The presentation summarizes the performance of a steel truss railway bridge near Saskatoon which remained in service during pile driving of 273 H section piles to embedment depths of 9m for pier rehabilitation and new pier construction. Successful cofferdam construction practices under a compressed timeline will also be presented and discussed.

Saskatoon North Commuter Parkway and Traffic Bridge Replacement Project: Construction Challenges and Solutions - Catlan Dallaire, Clifton Associates

The Project included approximately 8.3 km of new four to six lane arterial roadways, improvement/expansion of approximately 2.1 km of existing arterial roadways, a new six-lane bridge across the South Saskatchewan River and the deconstruction and replacement of the iconic Traffic Bridge with a new “in-kind” replacement using modern design standards. This case study examines a few select geotechnical challenges and seeks to showcase the design revisions and alterations required to meet the project performance criteria, while discussing lessons learned during the process.
