2023 GeoWall Social

Since the hardships of 2020, the USCGS is pleased to be able to host the 2023 GeoWall Social to continue the success from our inaugural 2019 event. This event is a proven opportunity to strengthen the relationship between undergraduate students and the geotechnical community.

MSE walls date back to prehistoric builders using sticks and branches to reinforce soil structures; modern applications use engineered geosynthetic solutions. During the competition portion of the event, teams will work in groups to design and construct a model MSE wall using sand and newspaper! While using minimal resources, teams of four (1 sponsor/industry member and 3 undergraduate students) will work together against the clock to develop the highest and strongest wall. Prizes and bragging rights will be awarded to the top teams.

Program:

• Cocktails: 5:00 - 5:30 PM
• Opening Remarks & Dinner (UNA Pizza & Wine): 5:30 - 6:00 PM
• Wall Building: 6:00 - 7:00 PM
• Testing and Prizes: 7:00 - 7:45 PM
